The difference that separates it

One of the most exciting things about Balinese coffee is, unlike the variants from Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi, it hasn’t come from the Dutch people. In the early 20th century, some traders from Lombok brought coffee plants in Bali and proceeded to create plantation. In the Kintamani region, volcanic soil is abundant, and the weather is perfect for growing coffee.

The most famous coffee in the world

Another important reason for visiting Bali as a coffee lover is, this country is home to the most expensive coffee in the world. It is called the Kopi Luwak. Despite being the most expensive coffee in the world, the processing of this coffee is not very pretty. For the creation of Kopi Luwak, the berries are first eaten by wild Civet, a cat-like wild animal. These animals then defecate the coffee beans, which becomes richer with the stomach enzymes of the Civet.

How Kopi Luwak is made

During their journey through the digestive system of a civet, coffee beans lose their bitterness giving the resulting coffee a mild and smooth taste. Initially, the whole process used to depend on wild civets and that made the coffee so expensive. Practices are now changing. To earn more money, people now use caged civets to have more production of Kopi Luwak. So while buying the stuff, you have to be careful. Otherwise, your money will be spent for nothing.

The difference in processing methods

Another difference you will spot in the Balinese coffee is the processing methods. Apart from the famous Kopi Luwak, the other variants of coffee are prepared through the traditional wet process. Under this method, the coffee bean is removed from its fruit while it is still wet. Due to this, the coffee from Bali is different and has a much brighter taste than the other regions. So indulging in coffee during each of your Bali holidays will be making the most of the available opportunity.

If you want to sample some truly astounding specimens in the world, then a holiday in Bali is mandatory. The country will change your perspective of coffee considerably.
